The United Islamic Associations of Sweden (UIAS) condemn the recent Quran burnings in Sweden as harmful acts that threaten the very fabric of our society. These acts of hatred and intolerance have no place in our country and must be stopped immediately.
The UIAS calls on all Swedish politicians to take a strong stand against these Quran burnings and to understand the profound impact they have on the Muslim community in Sweden. These acts, which are an attack on and a direct personal threat against Muslims in Sweden, not only harm Muslims but also harm the conception of Sweden as an open and inclusive country.
”These Quran burnings are an attack on our very existence as Muslims in Sweden,” said Mustafa Issa, Chairman of the UIAS. ”As a society, we must come together to reject hate and bigotry in all forms and to protect the rights and dignity of all people.”
For this reason, the UIAS welcomes all diplomatic initiatives from Muslim-majority countries to address this escalating crisis. Freedom of speech is not absolute in any democratic country, including Sweden, and should be used responsibly.
The UIAS calls on all people of good will in Sweden to speak out against these attacks and take lawful actions to ensure our society remains open and inclusive.
